You have alienated 50% of your marketing target group with your type of covers. If I were you, I would reconsider it if nothing then for the sake of profits!

Thank you very much for making it possible to have one. If there's any possibility you can tell her that I LIKE HER VERY MUCH :) I'm from the Philippines :)

I am an African American male who has just met a beautiful Asian female and we were at our local book store the other day and she happen to buy your magazine. While she was taking a shower I decided to open up your magazine to see what it was all about. I was really fascinated with your magazine and read it from cover to cover. I want to commend you on how you portray your culture, hertiage and your beautiful women. I also enjoyed your piece on "shy Guy" because even though I am dating someone right now, I still consider myself a shy guy but your article really changed all that yesterday. I just want to commend you on a job well down because in a industry where you only see Caucasians models on the cover, with the same bland content, it is really refreshing to read something new. Yolk you have just found a new reader in me.

Take a look at today's mainstream (Anglo-oriented) magazines and you'll find they too, "exploit" women. Gracing the covers of most magazines (Cosmo, Vogue, to name only a couple) are attractive, scantily clad (mostly white) women. They however, are not deemed exotic seductresses, purveyors of secret sex techniques (once long lost within the scrolls of the orient), or compliant "fuck toys". Now why is that? It seems that whenever Asian magazines follow those same tried and true formulas that the Anglo magazines have used to become successful, they are somehow "asking for it" and perpetuating a stereotype that was attributed upon us in the first place. So if we (Asians) portray our women as beautiful, desirable, and God forbid a little bit sexy, as every other magazine does, we are accused of perpetuating stereotypes. On the other hand if they are portrayed in the opposite manner, we now fulfill the other popular stereotype that Asian women are "asexual" and "cold fish." And ultimately both outcomes just fuckin suck.

i'm a black girl from detroit. a friend of mine is chinese and had a couple issues of YOLK hanging around. I found them very entertaining to read. I noticed a couple messages below from who were concerned that YOLK presents its women as 'sluts' and 'f*ck toys'. Well, being a black woman, i feel your pain. There are far too many images of black women as 'hoes' in videos. But being in the entertainment industry, i see the other side. YOLK is a business. A business needs to make money. Sex sells. Its that simple. But of COURSE the intellectual is the most important. The trick is to meld the two so seamlessly that people don't realize they've learned something until it's too late. A beautiful woman on the cover who is a business entrepeneur giving advice on opening your own business... A handsome man on the cover who is an up and coming performer... An intriguing person on the cover who is the leader of international civil rights organization... That is how you lure people in. The cover looks good, they buy it. Unfortunately, magazines are in the business of being judged by their covers. So they have to be physically appealing. Thats just the way we humans work. If we like the surface, we'll go in for a closer look at the substance. But the substance has to be there. I definately agree with that. An article in every issue with interesting historical points "DID YOU KNOW" type of things... And as far as the stereotypes being in the magazine... there are certain things black folks say to other black folks that anyone else would NEVER say, because it just isn't acceptable. I would assume it is the same for asians. But within your own community and culture, there are certain sterotypical ideas, situations and archetypes that we find amusing. it's like poking fun at yourself. And since this magazine is marketed towards and for asians, i don't see a conflict. but thats just my humble opinion. all in all, i'm glad this magazine exists. i hope it gets more exposure and is soon as well known as Ebony Magazine. Or better yet, if Ebony and Yolk took Cosmo off of it's pedastal!! ;-) --jelly

Yolk has nothing to A magazine. You're trying to empower a people by giving them images of fuck toys? Uh yeah...(rolling eyes). You may be the quiet and subserviant type of Asian, but I know many that speak there mind, and for those who are trying to make POSITIVE images of Asian culture, this is not helping. What you want to compete with "white" america? What level are you competing on? Sex? Oh yeah that's good. (Sarcasim). What about the mental what about the politics? There are worse things going on that need to be addressed: hate crimes, lack of history, lack of acknowledgement, stereoptypes. And so far, Yolk is living up to it: Geisha girls, rice boys/rockets. You wanna compete with America? Why do you have to fight? What happened to education? You want to make a name for Asian culture or just use American things to show it? (Your Got Milk bite off). Yeah, that's really original. Where is the fucking awareness? How does Yolk promote Asian culture, Asian American culture WITHOUT living up to the stereotypes or placing them more on us Asian people?

Hey no need to bash YOLK! I'm from a small town in Florida, but I know that I look forward to Asians in the media, whether it be bad or good, it's an opinion, they probably need to include the other side, but atleast we have a magazine to go to. Hint Hint...We can't find it in Florida actually, but the issues that I have are good to me. My point is this: Asian-Americans take on many hats, some are conservative and other are flamboyant, there's always good and bad, always black and white, if Asians were just known as quiet and not shown as outspoken or dynamic to the world, then I'd been shamed of YOLK, but they don't do that, and that's why i like YOLK. YOLK shows the world that we're not silent minority with no appeal. Every race has their stereotypical women, atleast we're not known as hairy bearded women, like Russian women. I'm not sayin that they do, just an example. That's my view, sorry, but i felt it's unfair to bash a magazine that has to compete with white america...thanks Yolk! gotta get Yolk in Florida's diet! shout out to deepvision.net! I also came here thru them.

Yeah that's how you want to support your local asian community...espcially your asian women by MARKETING THEM like SLUTS? Yeah America, jack off to that...good going Yolk. Nice way to tell America, "No our women are not your dragon ladies, geisha girls, mail order brides. We just support them looking like that."
